Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 1-strip and 3-strip parquet?
Each board of 1-strip parquet is made of one wide lamella, giving the look of a plank floor. 3-strip parquet has three narrower rows of lamellas across the board surface, creating a calmer, more classic pattern. Both are engineered and suitable for underfloor heating.
Should I choose lacquered or oiled parquet?
A lacquered surface is easy to look after and protects the wood well against dirt and moisture. An oiled or hardwax-oiled surface looks more natural and worn areas can be spot-repaired, but it needs periodic maintenance with a care oil.
What does the parquet grade mean?
The grade shows how many knots, cracks and colour variations the wood contains. Calmer grades (e.g. select, natur) have a more even tone, while rustic grades (e.g. rustic) have a lively character and more knots.
Is parquet floated or glued down?
Click-system parquet can be floated over an underlay, which is quick and simple. Gluing to the subfloor gives lower footfall noise and better heat transfer with underfloor heating. Herringbone parquet is usually always glued down. Leave an expansion gap around the walls.

Frequently asked questions about parquet
Which parquet is suitable for underfloor heating?
Most engineered (multi-layer) parquet floors up to 15 mm thick are suitable for underfloor heating. 3-strip and veneered parquet are particularly suitable, as their thinner construction conducts heat better. It is important to choose parquet that the manufacturer has approved for use with underfloor heating. You will find parquet compatible with underfloor heating in our range – ask our specialists for advice!
What is the difference between 1-strip and 3-strip parquet?
1-strip parquet consists of one wide wooden top layer, giving the floor a luxurious and more spacious look – each board looks like a single whole. 3-strip parquet consists of three narrow wooden strips that create a classic and lively pattern. 1-strip parquet is usually more expensive but gives a room a modern and more exclusive look. 3-strip parquet is more affordable and suits any room.
How should parquet be maintained?
Parquet care depends on the finish. Lacquered parquet is easy to maintain – regular vacuuming and wiping with a damp cloth is enough. Oiled parquet needs to be re-oiled periodically (1–2 times a year). Avoid excess water on parquet, use special parquet cleaning products and fit protectors under furniture legs. With proper care, quality parquet lasts for decades.
How long does quality parquet last?
With proper care, quality engineered parquet lasts 25–50 years. The service life of parquet depends on the thickness of the wear layer – the thicker the wear layer, the more times the parquet can be sanded and refinished. For example, parquet with a 4 mm wear layer can be sanded 2–3 times, which significantly extends its life.
Which parquet is best for the kitchen?
Lacquered parquet is best suited to the kitchen, as it is more moisture-resistant than oiled parquet. We recommend choosing oak or ash parquet in a rustic grade, as it is more durable and small scratches are less noticeable. Also consider veneered parquet, which is more stable and moisture-resistant thanks to its construction. It is important to wipe up spilled liquids quickly.
Can I install parquet myself or do I need a professional?
Floating (click system) parquet can be installed yourself – it requires no gluing and is relatively easy. Glue-down parquet, however, requires professional installation, as using the wrong adhesive or uneven installation can damage the parquet. Installing herringbone parquet is more complex, and we always recommend using an experienced parquet installer.
